ASA( Autism Society of America )

ASA is the oldest and largest grassroots organization within the autism community. Today, more than 120,000 members and supporters are connected through a working network of nearly 200 chapters nationwide.

The "Autism Society of America"(ASA) was founded in 1965 by Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. His book, Infantile Autism: The Syndrome and Its Implications for a Neural Theory of Behavior, was written in late 1964 and was one of the first of
its kind. In 1968, Ruth Sullivan, Ph.D. became the organization's first elected president. Over the last 40 years, the Society has grown from a handful of parents, into the leading source of information, research, and reference on autism. ASA is the oldest and largest grassroots organization within the autism community. Today, more than 120,000 members and supporters are connected through a working network of nearly 200 chapters nationwide. ASA membership continues to grow as more and more parents and professionals unite to form a collective voice representing the autism community.

ASA is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact. The Society and its chapters share a common mission of providing information and education, and supporting research and advocating for programs and services for the autism community.

Dear Binghe, You Can Help Change the Course of Autism

I am writing to you about one of the most significant initiatives we have ever undertaken called the "Treatment Guided Research Initiative" (TGRI). TGRI is a huge leap forward from hopelessness to treatment that has the potential to put
an end to the statement "We cannot treat autism".

Our goal is to raise $1.5 million dollars to launch TGRI and support our mission to help fund a transformational treatment paradigm providing new options for individuals and families now.

TGRI is about NOW and HOW...and your gift today makes this possible.

Regardless of the differences among the many treatments and approaches that already exist, the fact remains that we can and must help people now. For many years, autism has been characterized as incurable and untreatable. Today, however, we are finding that many of its resulting features are chronic and therefore treatable. Because some of autism's features cause pain, suffering and reduction of life options, making treatments optimal and available is a very high priority and constitutes a moral obligation for physicians, scientists and policy-makers.

In order to do this, we need your support. Thank you for supporting ASA as we improve the lives of all those affected by autism.

With gratitude and hope,

Lee Grossman
Father of a child with autism
President, Autism Society of America

An Autism Awareness message from ASA

DID YOU KNOW?

Over 1.5 million Americans are affected by autism.

U.S. rate of growth over the last decade:
Population: 13%
Non-autism-related disabilities: 16%
Autism: 173%

Today 50 families in America will find out that their child has autism.

Dear anbinghe,

National Autism Awareness Month is more than a month away, so why are we sending you this important message now? Because autism is a 365 day-a-year battle and we can\'t afford to let another day go by without making the public
aware of this growing epidemic. More than ever, we need your help. Please forward the Autism Awareness Ribbon and our message to your family, friends, and co-workers.

You can also help by getting involved with your local community ASA chapter, urging your local representatives to promote autism-related support and services, or making a contribution to ASA. For more information click here or
visit www.autism-society.org.

Together we can generate the much needed attention that people living with autism so desperately need, not only during the month of April, but year round.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Lee Grossman
ASA President
